Intracranial collateral circulation and its role in neurovascular pathology

چکیده
Abstract Background Collateral circulation is a vascular network which maintains the blood flow after partial blockage of primary pathways. This acts as potential supplementary system and plays important role in cerebral ischemia. Main body has implications management especially related to endovascular treatment thrombolytic therapy. It considered subsidiary channels, highly variable. Insufficient arterial supply due hemodynamic compromise because thromboembolism. Apart from collaterals, there additional existence group vessels known venous collaterals. Their function variable they contribute augmentation drainage ischemias. Various pharmacological interventions are used modulate these can prove be complementary alternative invasive intracerebral interventions. Conclusions The aim this review article highlight importance collateral discuss various available alternatives their current relevance neurovascular pathologies.

Surgical Production of Collateral Intracranial Circulation
During the past decade a considerable body of work has accumulated upon methods of augmenting deficient local circulation. The approach has been chiefly along two different lines: (1) Procedures directed at the autonomic nervous system to relieve local vasoconstriction; (2) Surgical production of accessory circulation to the involved part. The autonomic approach has been followed extensively in...
متن کاملContinuous-Wave Doppler in the Evaluation of Intracranial Collateral Circulation
Adequate intracranial collateral circulation reduces risk of stroke in carotid artery surgery. To evaluate their relative accuracies in assessing intracranial collateral blood flow, we prospectively compared transcranial Doppler and continuous-wave Doppler of the cervical carotid arteries combined with compression of the common carotid artery in 28 consecutive patients before carotid endarterec...
متن کاملCollateral circulation.
BACKGROUND The collateral circulation plays a pivotal role in the pathophysiology of cerebral ischemia. Current knowledge of the collateral circulation remains sparse, largely because of prior limitations in methods for evaluation of these diminutive routes of cerebral blood flow. SUMMARY OF REVIEW Anatomic descriptions of the collateral circulation often focus on more proximal anastomoses at...
متن کاملCollateral circulation and diabetes.
The article by Abaci et al 1 in this issue of Circulation draws our attention to a very important and novel observation that patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) have a lesser ability to develop collateral blood vessels in the presence of coronary artery disease. This is somewhat surprising, because DM is known to stimulate angiogenesis, at least in the retina of the eye, and is, because of cap...
متن کاملElectroacupuncture improves neurovascular unit reconstruction by promoting collateral circulation and angiogenesis
Acupuncture at Shuigou (GV26) shows good clinical efficacy for treating stroke, but its mechanism remains poorly understood. In this study, a cerebral infarction model of ischemia/reperfusion injury received electroacupuncture at GV26 (15 Hz and 1 mA, continuous wave [biphasic pulses], for 5 minutes). Electroacupuncture effectively promoted regional cerebral blood flow on the infarct and non-in...
